About Us

Astroboa reflects the six-year effort of a small team to build a tool that would make happy its users and creators. A framework that would respond to the conceptual design needs of a thinker or an organization alike. We seeked a way to decouple information and knowledge from the various vertical content applications they reside and bring in tools to ease the creation of atomized and semi-structured content. Thus we created and still develop a framework and a  platform to assist the "always beta" process that all creative people follow along their lives. Wherefore beta (β) -the second letter of the Greek alphabet- stands for constant evolution and perpetual change.

Astroboa is an open source Semi-Structured Information Management Platform with strong modeling and resource sharing features. It supports social and conceptual knowledge organization in the most straightforward and open standards way.

Gregory Chomatas photoGregory Chomatas  is the initiator of Astroboa and other "beta" concepts. In fact, from the day he was born he was doomed to "Conceptual Torturing". To perpetually analyze, synthesize and create concepts. His close friends believe that his brain is a pattern matching engine. From all concepts Gregory favors "openness and sharing". Open Architecture, Open Frequencies and of course Open Source. Thus Astroboa is dedicated to all those people around the world that share their knowledge and provide him with "conceptual" thinking material. Gregory has significant expertise in JavaEE technologies, XML and Web Services, java open source frameworks, dynamic languages and Large Scale IT Architectures, specializing and particularly interested in work related to Semantic Web, Linked Data, Content Modelling and Knowledge Management. He is currently the project leader and one of the main developers of Astroboa targeting his and the team's efforts towards turning Astroboa into a Cloud Service. The Astroboa Cloud Service will enable companies to turn their unstructured data to semi-structured and facilitates rapid development of data-driven apps. Gregory participates as a national expert on behalf of the Greek e-Government Unit in the ADMS (Asset Description Metadata Schema) Working Group of the SEMIC.EU (The Semantic Interoperability Centre Europe). He is also a member of the Labs.OpenGov Scientific Working Group of the Ministry of Administrative Reform and E-government, Hellenic Republic. In his limited spare time he enjoys scuba diving, cycling, reading and traveling.

Savvas Triantafyllou photoSavvas Triantafyllou is a highly experienced Software Engineer inspired by the idea of the Openness. He loves to produce open source software with a keen interest in content modeling and information architecture deployed in the Semantic Web neighborhood. Java and XML technologies can be found all over his work, although one can distinguish solid and robust samples of Ruby and other dynamic languages. Currently, he is one of the main developpers of the Astroboa Platform focusing mainly in deploying Astroboa in the Cloud. The sea is the place he loves to be around in his free time.

Katerina Kouriati photoKaterina Kouriati puts herself in constant challenge. With a background in Humanities and Cultural Information Systems she counts 17 years of experience in several set ups: excavations, geophysical surveys, cultural digitization projects, museums and archival collections. Her main role was to communicate concepts from the domain of the humanities to the domain of the IT and vice versa. These concepts were realized with software application customization, content analysis and research data modeling. She has lately worked in groups of international and national projects aiming at the implementation of new strategies for the development of digital Research Infrastructures for the Arts and Humanities. Katerina joined the Astroboa team bringing the cultural and reseach aspect in data analysis and modeling. Arts, literature and nature are her alternative ideal world.

Maria Ilvanidou photoMaria Ilvanidou likes elaborate modeling. The more demanding the issue the more involved she becomes. Extensive research, data analysis, conceptual modeling and deep knowledge of XML language, all combined, characterize her professional modus vivendi. She fits the team nicely and works to integrate Astroboa in the digital humanities field. Her mind rests plunging into crime fiction novels and she always enjoys good company over doughnuts and coffee.
